Field Hockey Falls to UMass, 2-1

AMHERST, MA - Sophomore Anke Bruemmer (Koeln, Germany) scored two goals to lead the University of Massachusetts to a 2-1 win over Providence College in collegiate field hockey action Wednesday afternoon. UMass is now 5-8 on the season, while Providence drops to 6-9.

Providence took the lead late in the first half when Erica Hebert scored the game’s first goal. Hebert settled a bouncing feed from outside the circle by Katie Willett and scored with 9:56 left in the half. It was Hebert's 101st career point which ranks her sixth all-time at Providence. UMass tied it up on a goal by Bruemmer midway through the second half on a penalty corner situation. Bruemmer gave the Minutewomen the first lead of the game with 8:09 left in regulation with another penalty corner goal.

UMass held a decided shot advantage in the game, outshooting PC by an 11-2 margin and holding a 7-1 edge on corners.
