PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team suffered a 2-0 loss to Boston University on Sunday, October 12 in Providence, R.I. With the loss the Friars fall to 9-6 on the season, while Boston University improves to 7-7. The Terriers took a 1-0 lead into halftime as Nikki Lloyd collected a loose ball in the circle during the 23rd minute and lifted it into the upper left corner of the cage, unassisted. BU held a 9-6 advantage in shots during the opening 35 minutes of play, while Providence held the edge in penalty corners, 5-4. Boston University added an insurance goal in the 64th minute as Lloyd scored her second goal of the game after collecting a rebound off an initial shot taken by Giovanna Monaco. With Providence goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain on the ground after her initial save, Lloyd lifted the ball over her to make the final score, 2-0. Chamberlain finished the day with eight saves in goal for Providence. Kim Kastuk made six saves for Boston University. The Terriers completed the game with a 14-7 shot advantage (10-6 on goal). Each team recorded five penalty corners on the day. Providence returns to action on Saturday, October 18 against BIG EAST foe Louisville at Noon.
