PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

The Providence College field hockey team defeated Rutgers, 3-0, in BIG EAST Conference field hockey action on Saturday, October 12 in Providence, R.I. The win marks the second shut-out victory of the season for the Friars, and first BIG EAST Conference victory of the year.

Senior Jennifer Chin (Norwood, Mass.) scored the first goal for PC 1:46 into the first half on a penalty corner. Senior Lyndsey Brooks was credited with the assist. Sophomore Amy Phillips (Worcester, Mass.) gave the Friars a 2-0 lead at the 43:40 mark of the second half. Senior Kelly Romanowicz (Shrewsbury, Mass.) earned the assist as she beat the Scarlet Knights goalkeeper and dished a pass to Phillips for the goal. Providence's Katie Kelly (Norwood, Mass.) scored her first career goal at the 58:47 mark to give the Friars their 3-0 victory. Kelly dribbled in from the top of the circle and slipped the ball past Rutgers' goalkeeper for the unassisted tally.

Providence goalkeeper Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) earned her second shut out of the season She recorded four saves in the game. Stacy Gaenzle made seven saves for Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights fall to 2-11 overall and 0-3 in the BIG EAST.

Providence (7-8, 1-1 BIG EAST) will host Pacific in a non-conference match-up on Sunday, October 12 at noon.
