The Providence College field hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision against Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H. on Monday, October 10.
The Friars jumped on the scoreboard first for a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute as freshman Daniella Bernasconi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) registered her team-leading fifth goal of the season. She found the back of the cage, unassisted, as she collected a rebound off of her own shot and knocked it by Dartmouth's goalkeeper.
The score would favor the Friars until the Big Green tied the score with 1:27 left in the half. Meghan Everett was credited with the goal as she tipped in a pass from Lisa Masini.
Dartmouth took a 2-1 lead at the 47:45 mark in the second half as Ali Savage recorded her ninth goal of the year. She converted on a crossing pass from Everett in front of Friar goalkeeper Shannon DiStefano (Longmeadow, Mass.). Sam Anderson added a third goal for Dartmouth as time expired for the 3-1 win. Savage was credited with the assist.
DiStefano recorded nine saves in the game for the Friars. Meagan Vakiener earned the victory in goal for Dartmouth with three saves. The Big Green held the advantage in shots (26-9), shots on goal (12-4) and penalty corners (10-3).
Providence returns to action on Friday, October 14 against BIG EAST foe Rutgers. The game will be played at 4:00 p.m. in Piscataway, N.J.
