LOUISVILLE, KY. - The 12th-ranked Providence College field hockey team suffered a 4-1 loss to 13th-ranked Louisville in BIG EAST play on Sunday, October 8 in Louisville, Ky. It marked the first loss in BIG EAST play for the Friars, who fall to 11-3 overall and 2-1 in conference. Louisville improves to 8-5 overall (2-1 BIG EAST). The defeat also marks the first set of back-to-back losses this season for Providence, who recently fell to 4th-ranked Boston College, 2-1.

Louisville jumped on the board first to take a 1-0 lead as Jessica Javelet connected on direct shot during a penalty corner 8:57 into the game. Casey Meizinger and Jen Kastelic were credited with assists on the play. Providence tied the game, 1-1, at 15:58 as senior Emily Ewens (Vancouver, B.C.) drilled home a shot from the top of the circle, unassisted. Ewens' goal proved to be the only tally of the afternoon for the Friars as Louisville went on to score three unanswered goals to seal the win.

Louisville took a 2-1 lead into halftime as Casey Diener put a goal in at the right post off a feed form Lisa Wasser at 24:15.

Javelet netted her second goal of the afternoon to make the score, 3-1, as she collected a rebound on an initial shot taken by Allison Maffit at 44:55. Javelet finished off the Friars as she connected on an unassisted goal for a hat trick at 57:25, making the final score 4-1.

Louisville outshot Providence, 21-5, and held the advantage on penalty corners, 6-4.

Freshman goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) registered 12 saves in the Friar loss. Marie-Claire Heller recorded two saves for Louisville.

Providence (11-3, 2-1 BIG EAST) returns to action on Friday, October 13 at Syracuse in a BIG EAST match-up. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Syracuse, N.Y.
