Providence, R.I. - The No. 19 Providence College field hockey team lost to No. 10 Boston College, 4-2, on Monday, October 5 in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The Friars fall to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in BIG EAST Conference play.

At the end of a closely contested first half, Courtney Tavener scored an unassisted goal for Boston College with 4:09 remaining. Despite being outshot, 4-3, by the Friars, Boston College was able to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Friars scored first in the second half and tied the game at 1-1 when senior Ali Shover (Camp Hill, Pa.) scored a goal with an assist from Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine). The goal was the third of the season for Shover and it marked the first assist of the season for Poulin. The goal came with 22:07 left to play in the game. Boston College responded quickly, scoring three goals in the next 12 minutes to take a 4-1 lead. The first goal was scored by Chelsey Feole and the second by Jessica Roberts. Emily Kozniuk provided assists on both goals. The final Boston College goal was scored by Feole with an assist from Tavener. Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) scored an unassisted goal for the friars, her third of the season, with 25 seconds left in the game to make the final score 4-2.

Each team had eight shots in the game, while Boston College held the advantage in penalty corners 7-6.

The Friars return to action on Friday, October, 9 when they travel to New Brunswick, N.J. to face Rutgers at 3:00 p.m.
