Final Stats

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The 12th-ranked Providence College field hockey team suffered a, 2-1, loss at the hands of 4th-ranked Boston College on Wednesday, October 4 at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. Caitlin Gillen scored the game-winning goal for BC in the 51st minute of play as she slipped the ball into the lower left side of the cage off a feed from Katie Quaglia. Providence and Boston College each left the field at the completion of play with identical 11-2 overall records.

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead just 3:57 into the game as Caitlyn Young scored a goal off by deflecting a pass from Bob Dirks. The Friars answered to tie the game, 1-1, at the 12:52 mark as senior Melissa McGow (Branford, Conn.) netted an unassisted tally.

Providence dodged a bullet with a little over five minutes remaining in the first half as a Friar defender was issued a yellow card. PC was a player down for the remainder of the half, but was able to keep the Eagles off the scoreboard during that time. The two teams remained tied until Young's heroics at 50:28.

Boston College outshot Providence, 14-5, and held a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Eagles also recorded a 9-2 edge in penalty corners.

Freshman goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) registered five saves in the game for Providence. Julia Berkowitz was credited with two saves for BC.

Providence College (11-2, 2-0 BIG EAST) will return to action on Sunday, October 8 against 13th-ranked Louisville. The game is scheduled for Noon at Trager Stadium in Louisville, Ky. PC's game against the Cardinals marks the first of four-straight road contests, before returning home to the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex to take on Villanova in BIG EAST play on Sunday, October 22.
