Field Hockey Falls To UConn In BIG EAST Action

STORRS, Conn. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to the University of Connecticut, 3-0, on Wednesday night in Storrs, Conn. The Huskies become the second team this season to hold the Friars scoreless, enroute to their BIG EAST Conference victory.

Freshman Lauren Henderson led the Huskies with two goals and one assist in the game. Sophomore Lauren Christie tallied the remaining goal off of a penalty corner. The goal was assisted by Henderson and Amy Marland.

Providence goalkeeper Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) made three saves in the losing effort. Maureen Butler registered six saves for Connecticut. The Friars fall to 7-3 overall and 1-2 in BIG EAST action. UConn improves to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the BIG EAST.

Both team were fairly even statistically throughout the game. UConn outshot Providence, 14-8, and were even on penalty corners, 6-6.

Providence will travel to Villanova for its next game on Sunday, October 7 for a 12:00 p.m. start time.
