The Providence College field hockey team fell to No. 5 Connecticut, 4-2, in BIG EAST Conference action on Friday, September 28 in Storrs, Conn.
Connecticut held a 1-0 lead at halftime as Marie Elena Bolles deflected a goal at the right post with 14:23 remaining in the half during a penalty corner. Louisa Boddy was credited with the assist. The Huskies held a 6-0 advantage in shots and a 4-0 edge in penalty corners. Providence made several runs into its offensive end, but was unable to get off a shot attempt.
The Huskies increased their lead to 3-0 with goals from Boddy and Chloe Hunnable early in the second half. Providence stormed back to make the score 3-2 with back-to-back goals in a span of 1:28. Sophomore Kaleigh FitzPatrick (Dedham, Mass.) netted the first goal on a deflection at the left post during a penalty corner with 20:08 remaining in the game. Sophomore Henni Tietze (Sankt Augustin, Germany) earned the assist on the play. Sophomore Steph Guglielmo (Castle Rock, Colo.) found the back of the cage for the Friars' second goal with 18:40 left on the clock on a penalty corner. Guglielmo's tally was assisted by FitzPatrick.
Connecticut answered with 10:36 remaining in the game to regain its two-goal lead. Boddy earned the goal off a direct shot during a penalty corner, assisted by Katherine Baker and Chrissy Davidson.
The Friars return to action on Wednesday, October 3 against non-conference foe Dartmouth. The match is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. Cox Sports will televise the game, locally, via tape delay.
