The No. 19 Providence College field hockey team lost to No. 7 Syracuse University, 2-1, on Saturday, September 26 at Coyne Field in Syracuse, N.Y. The Friars fall to 3-5 on the season, and 0-2 in BIG EAST Conference play.
In the first half, Syracuse scored two goals. Kristin Girouard put the Orange on the board first, scoring at the 17:10 mark in the first half on an assist from Lindsey Conrad. The second goal was scored shortly after by Tracy Deitrick at 29:03 into the half. Conrad again provided the assist.
The Friars were able to cut Syracuse's lead to 2-1 in the second half when junior Ashlyn Hudson (Stoughton, Mass.) scored at the 44:31 mark. This goal was the third on the season for Hudson. Goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) recorded four saves for the Friars while defender Adrienne Marois (Auburn, Mass.) recorded two defensive saves.
Syracuse held the advantage in penalty corners, 8-5.
Providence returns to action on Sunday, September 27 against non-conference opponent Albany. The game will be played at Alumni Field Hockey in Albany, N.Y. and will begin at 2:30 p.m.
