WALTHAM, MASS. - The Providence College field hockey team opened BIG EAST Conference play with a 5-1 loss to ninth-ranked Boston College on Tuesday, September 21 at the Bentley College Turf in Waltham, Mass. The game was tied 1-1 at halftime, but the Eagles scored four unanswered goals in the second half to earn the win.

The Eagles struck first, scoring the game's first goal at the 21:26 mark of the first half. Sara York (Watertown, Mass.) redirected a Sabrina Lazzari (Weston, Mass.) shot on goal for the quick 1-0 lead. The Friars, however, would tie the game at the 14:14 mark of the first on an unassisted goal from sophomore Jessica Weinstein (Bridgeton, N.J.). The goal marked the first of the season for Weinstein. The game would remain notched at one goal apiece through the intermission.

In the second half, Boston College's scoring attack came alive. The Eagles netted four goals on nine shots at the net. Freshman Alyssa Emrick (Bangor, Pa.) scored what would stand as the game-winning goal with 29:22 left to play. She added her team's fifth score of the evening. York and Emrick each chipped in with a pair of goals while Lazarri added a goal and two assists on the night.

Providence (3-6, 0-1 BIG EAST) returns to action on Friday, September 24 against non-conference foe New Hampshire at 7:00 p.m. in Durham, N.H. The Friars will remain in Durham for a game scheduled against Albany on Sunday, September 26 at 1:00 p.m.
