Providence Field Hockey Falls To No. 6 Connecticut

    Final Stats

    Providence R.I. - The Providence College field hockey dropped its first BIG EAST Conference game of the season to the University of Connecticut, 4-0. The game was played at the Friar Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I.

    Connecticut jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first half as Loren Sherer netted back-to-back goals within 16 seconds of one another. Her first came during a penalty corner as Robin Kleine fed her a pass at the left post. Her second goal was unassisted as she sent the ball into the lower left part of the cage on a reverse stick.

    The second half started with another goal by Sherer which came of a penalty corner and was assisted by Robin Kleine. The three goals marked a hat-trick for Sherer. The final goal of the game came shortly after at the 48:54 mark when Kleine scored on a direct shot off a penalty corner. Assists were credited to Allison Angulo and Kim Kryzk.

    Freshman Kathi Weidman played 56 minutes for the Friars and recorded six saves in goal.

    Providence returns to action tomorrow (September 20) against No. 4 Princeton in non-conference action. The game will be played at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I.
