STORRS, CONN. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to No. 4 Connecticut, 2-1, in overtime on Friday, September 19 in Storrs, Conn. Providence falls to 5-3 overall on the season (0-1 BIG EAST), while UConn improves to 7-0 (1-0 BIG EAST). Connecticut took a 1-0 lead at the 16:47 mark as Lauren Aird tallied an unassisted goal on a reverse chip from the left side of the cage. Providence tied the game, 1-1, at the 22:10 mark as sophomore Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) tipped in a free hit taken by junior Adrienne Marois (Auburn, Mass.) from the left side of the circle. The two teams were each held scoreless in the second half of play, resulting in overtime. At the end of regulation, Connecticut held a 14-11 advantage in shots, while the Friars owned a 7-4 edge in penalty corners. In overtime, Aird scored the game-winning goal during a penalty corner as she ripped a shot past PC's keeper off a feed from senior Jennifer Kleinhans (Mannheim, Germany). Providence returns to action on Friday, September 26 against No. 3 Syracuse at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
