Field Hockey Falls to Michigan State, 2-1

Providence, R.I.-- The Providence College Field Hockey team was defeated by Michigan State University, 2-1, at Northeastern University on Saturday, September 16.

Michigan State jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the half, as sophomore Cynthia Martin scored both goals for the Spartans.

Providence sophomore Jennifer Chin (Norwood, Mass.) then scored a goal for the Friars, with the assist from fellow sophomore Courtney Dow (Hampstead, N.Y.), less than five minutes into the second half. Even though PC outshot Michigan State, 8-5, the Friars still fell short of claiming their first win of the season.

Senior Heather Tattersall (Bethlehem, N.H.) made two saves for the Friars. Mireille Evans recorded five saves between the pipes for the Spartans.

Michigan State improved to 5-2 overall, while Providence fell to 0-7 overall.

Providence returns to action on Tuesday, September 19, when they travel to Worcester, Mass., to take on the Crusaders of the College of Holy Cross. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
