WORCESTER, MASS. - The Providence College field hockey team earned its first shutout of the season with a 3-0 victory over Vermont on Sunday, September 14 in Worcester, Mass. Sophomore forward Katharine Lary (Canaan, N.H.) led the Friars with one goal and two assists, as Providence improves its record to 3-2 overall on the season.

The Friars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Lary netted her team-leading fifth goal of the season just 2:20 into the first half of play. Lary scored, what proved to be the game-winning goal, on a rebound off of the Catamount's goalkeeper. Junior forward Amy Phillips (Worcester, Mass.) put PC up 2-0 as scored her third goal of the season at the 23:57 mark of the first half. The goal came on a penalty corner as Lary passed the ball out to the top of the circle and Phillips drove it home. Senior Stefanie Suehnholz (Flemington, N.J.) scored the third and final goal of the game in the same fashion. Lary fed the ball to Suehnholz at the top of the circle on a penalty corner and she fired a hard shot passed UVM's keeper.

Senior goalkeeper Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) played 58:52 minutes in the cage for Providence before being relieved by junior Meredith Jones (Lake Forest, Ill.) at the 11:08 mark of the second half. Moran collected seven saves, while Jones was credited with two stops. Vermont's Ariel Eber allowed three Providence goals and made eight saves in the loss. The Catamounts fall to 0-6 overall on the season.
