Field Hockey Falls to Connecticut, 6-0

Storrs, Conn.-- The Providence College Field Hockey team was defeated by the University of Connecticut, 6-0, in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on Saturday, September 9.

The Huskies had a 2-0 lead after the first half before unfavorable weather conditions hampered the second half. The game was delayed for nearly 45 minutes due to thunder and rain with 14 minutes remaining.

After the weather cleared up, Connecticut scored four more times to finalize the shutout. Freshman Amy Marland led the Huskies with two goals.

Providence senior goalie Heather Tattersall (Bethlehem, N.H.) made 21 saves for the Friars, while senior Breanne Wojnarowicz (Holden, Mass.) had the game's only defensive save. Alana Linick recorded one save between the pipes for Connecticut.

Connecticut improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the BIG EAST, while the Friars fell to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Providence returns to action on Wednesday, September 13, when they take on the Bears of Brown University. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
