Field Hockey Falls To URI In OT, 4-3
Sept. 6, 2000 KINGSTON, R.I.-- The Providence College field hockey team was defeated by the University of Rhode Island, 4-3, on Wednesday, September 6. URI took a 2-0 first half lead on two goals by Kelley Barnowski at 32:30 and 31:07. Friar senior Jamie Lerch (Medway, Mass.) cut the Rams' lead in half with PC's first goal with 14:53 remaining in the first half. The Rams regained a two-goal advantage on Heather Lockheart's tally at 27:26 of the second half. The Friars refused to give up as freshman Casey Geary (Norwood, Mass.) notched PC's second goal of the game at 24:37 of the second half. With 4:20 remaining in the game, junior Katie Willett (Biddeford, Maine) notched her first goal of the season to tie the game at 3-3. URI earned the victory in overtime as Barnowski completed the hat trick, netting her third goal of the game at 12:36 of the extra period. Providence senior goalie Heather Tattersall (Bethlehem, N.H.) made three saves for the Friars. Amanda Heryla recorded seven saves in the win for URI. Providence returns to action on Saturday, September 9, when they travel to Storrs, Conn., to take on the University of Connecticut at 1:00 p.m.
