Final Stats

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team defeated Holy Cross, 2-0, on Wednesday, September 5 at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacross Complex in Providence, R.I. Senior Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.) and junior Ali Kornfeld (Kingston, Pa.) each scored unassisted goals in the victory. The Friars have won two-straight games and improve to 2-2 on the year. Holy Cross drops to 1-2 overall with the loss.

After a scorless opening half, the Friars got on the board just 1:09 into the second half as Maguire knocked in a rebound off of the Holy Cross goalkeeper. Kornfeld added an insurance goal with 8:05 left on the clock after collecting the ball in front of the cage during a scrum and slipping into the goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) recorded five saves on five Crusader shots. The win marked her first shut-out victory of the season and eighth of her career. Erin Singleton recorded nine saves in goal for Holy Cross.

Providence outshot Holy Cross, 19-5, and held an 11-5 advantage in shots on goal. Providence was awarded five penalty corners in the game. Holy Cross earned three penalty corners.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, September 9 against Dartmouth. The game will be played at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex and is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
