Field Hockey Falls To Hofstra, 1-0

STORRS, CONN. - The Providence College field hockey team was defeated by Hofstra, 1-0, in the final game of the Husky Classic on Sunday, September 1 in Storrs, Conn. Providence allowed Hofstra to get on the scoreboard five minutes and seven seconds into the first half of play, as Tricia-Ann Greaves connected off of a penalty corner. The Friars held Hofstra scoreless for the remainder of the game, but were unable to convert a goal of their own. The Friars outshot Hofstra 14-10, and held the advantage on offensive penalty corners, 10-7. Eight of PC's 10 offensive corners were recorded in the second half of play. Junior goalkeeper Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) recorded four saves for Providence. Christine Hickey stopped 10 shots in goal for Hofstra. At the conclusion of the tournament, senior Jennifer Chin (Norwood, Mass.) was one of four players selected to Husky Classic All-Tournament Team. Joining Chin were Tricia-Ann Greaves (Hofstra), Kelly Cochrane (UConn) and Molly Sheehan (Vermont). Providence (1-1) will travel to the University of Rhode Island to take on the Rams at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4.
