Providence Field Hockey falls to Maine, 5-0
Aug. 30, 2000 Orono, Maine -- The Providence College Field Hockey team was defeated by the University of Maine, 5-0, at Orono, Maine on Wednesday, August 30. The Black Bears posted all five goals in the first half, with sophomore Jen Johnstone netting two goals off penalty corners, and senior Kristi Knights scoring twice on loose balls. Sophomore Tara Bedard rounded out Maine's offense effort with her goal with just 35 seconds remaining in the first half. Providence senior goalie Heather Tattersall (Bethlehem, N.H.) made two saves, while fellow senior Julie Tanguay (Bow, N.H.) registered a defensive save for the Friars. Maine's Danielle Burke made four saves between the pipes for the Black Bears. Providence outshot Maine, 15-12, while both teams each had six penalty corners. The Black Bears improved to 1-1 on the season, while the Friars fell to 0-1 overall. Providence returns to action on Saturday, September 2, when they take on the University of Louisville in the opening round of the University of Connecticut Tournament. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Storrs, Conn.
