Providence's Wojnarowicz Named Big East Field Hockey Rookie of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College freshman back Breanne Wojnarowicz (Holden, MA) was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week as she led the sixth ranked Friars to a 2-1 week. This is the second time she has been given the honor. Providence defeated Holy Cross, 6-1, Northeastern 3-2 and lost their first game of the season to UNH, 1-0.

Wojnarowicz defended the top scorer in all three games last week and allowed no goals by her opponent. Wojnarowicz was one-on-one against a Northeastern player late in the second overtime (as PC was playing with one man down) and stopped a potential breakaway. Providence went on to win the game in a stroke-off.

She started and played in all three games and played in every minute of each contest including the extra 30 minutes in the double overtime win vs. Northeastern. The freshman has played in every minute of every game this season.

The Friars are 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the BIG EAST.
