Project Providence: Forming the Future with the Friars
Dear Principal or Teacher,
The Providence College Athletic Department and the Providence College women's basketball team are happy to announce the Seventh Annual PROJECT PROVIDENCE: Forming the Future with the Friars presented by Irving Oil, the Providence Journal, and UnitedHealthcare. In its sixth year, PROJECT PROVIDENCE featured over 1,000 middle and elementary school students from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. Students were spoken to on the importance of good health and schoolwork and participated in a variety of fun basketball drills. Our goals are to create an educational and fun-filled day, benefitting young students and filling Alumni Hall with Friar Fanatics.
This year's PROJECT PROVIDENCE will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 in Alumni Hall on the campus of Providence College. The event will consist of activities to inform the students about good sportsmanship, exercise programs, proper nutrition, and the importance of athletics for the well-being of mind and body, as well as education. Each activity will be administered by a member of the Providence College Athletic Department. The activities will be followed by a women's basketball game featuring the University of Dayton Flyers and the Providence College Friars at Noon.
Two teaching guides and learning guides will be delivered to students as part of the program:
- Pre-Event Student Guide
TThis guide will be distributed to classrooms the week of December 2. The guide includes information and interactive activities on a variety of subjects including nutrition, exercise, geography, grammar, mathematics, and more. This guide is great for learning in the classroom or at home. - Event-Day Student Guide
This guide will be distributed and used on the day of the event (December 18). It will provide information that the students can use during the activities, on the bus ride from the event, as well as information about the Providence College women's basketball team.
Thanks to the educational nature of this event and Providence College's continued commitment to community involvement, this event will be completely FREE of charge. Schools are responsible for busing students to and from the event and students will need to bring their own lunch.
We encourage you to reserve a spot for your students today, as there are a limited number of seats available. Applicants will be handled on a first-come, first-serve basis. The deadline for registration is Tuesday, November 19, 2013.
Please distribute copies of the attached flyer to your school's teachers, have them complete the attached form and mail to Rachel Anderson at the address below.
