Visit FriartwownIsMyTown.com to cast your vote today!
Friar fans still have a chance to be elected Mayor by earning a spot in the January elections. We will be accepting videos telling us about your Favorite Friar Memory until December 31 with the four best videos competing next month. To enter your video, record yourself, upload the video to YouTube and email the YouTube link to email@example.com by December 31.
If you aren't selected for the January election, you have one more chance to be selected as the wildcard fan to compete against the other three finalists in February. Wildcard videos must be submitted by January 31. For your chance to be the wildcard, do something to show your love for the Friars -- paint your face, put on a crazy Friar outfit, do a dance or whatever you think will convince the fans in Friartown that you are the biggest fan.
"This season is all about our Fans. We wanted to create something that makes them feel as though they are part of the Friar Family," Katie Moore Director of Athletic Marketing said. "We came up with a contest of naming a fan the Mayor of Friartown. We also want to get our fans more involved at the games and that is where the photos come in. We are hoping fans will submit their favorite Friar photos to be shown at the game."
The results are in from the first month of elections to find the Mayor of Friartown. Providence Athletics is proud to announce that former Friar ice hockey standout, Kristin Gigliotti, won the November election with almost 200 votes. Gigliotti, a 2007 graduate, convinced the fans in Friartown that she loves the Friars more than the three other finalists running in the November elections on FriaritownIsMyTown.com.
"I just bleed black and white, still live in the area and come back to as many games as I can," Gigliotti said in her video that was posted online last month.
With the win, Gigliotti received a Nike Friar prize pack and qualified for the final election that will be held online in February to name the Mayor of Friartown. The fan votes will determine the winner who will be honored at the final home game of the season on March 5 against Rutgers, will receive an autographed team ball and will have lunch with Coach Keno Davis to celebrate the victory.
"This would be a HUGE honor for me! I truly am the biggest Friar fan! Being a former athlete and attending PC for both undergrad and grad school has meant the world to me," Gigliotti said after finding out she won the November elections. "I love the school, the city and all the people! This means the world to me and nothing makes me happier than when these teams win! I regularly attend PC sporting events and it would be such an honor to be named Mayor of Friartown! Thank you very much!"
