PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College junior guard Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, Dec. 21. It marks the third time this season that Beal has been named to the league’s weekly honor roll, having previously earned the recognition on Nov. 30 and Dec. 14.

In the Friars’ only game last week, Beal scored 15 second-half points, including eight of the Friars’ 11 points in overtime to defeat Rhode Island, 64-55, on Dec. 20 in Kingston, R.I. Beal shot 4-9 from the field overall (4-6 in the second half), and hit 7-9 free-throw attempts for PC. Beal scored six-straight points in the final 40-seconds of overtime to seal the victory, including a 4-4 performance from the charity stripe in the last 20 seconds. Beal also contributed a game-high four assists and added three rebounds.

Beal has scored in double figures during each of the Friars’ last seven games, which marks a career-best streak. During that seven game stretch, she also has posted two double-doubles and two 20+ point games.

Providence College opens its BIG EAST Conference regular-season schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 29 against Seton Hall. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to tip-off at 1:00 p.m. The Friars remain at home to host St. John’s on Thursday, Dec. 31 for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
