Providence College junior guard Tori Rule (Minneapolis, Minn.) was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday, November 25. It marks the first time in her career she has earned the league's weekly honor. Rule headlines the weekly honors, while Jasmine Penny (DePaul), Katie Young (Marquette), Aliyyah Handford (St. John's), Tabatha Richardson-Smith (Seton Hall) and Devon Kane (Villanova) each were named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Georgetown's Natalie Butler was the league's Freshman of the Week.
In three games last week, Rule averaged 22.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. She netted a season-high 32 points in a victory over Dartmouth on November 18. It marks the highest single-game scoring total by a BIG EAST player this season. In the Friars' victory over Hartford on November 20, Rule recorded 14 points, three rebounds and one assist. She followed with a game-high 22 points in a loss to Arizona State on November 23 and also contributed two assists and a season-high five rebounds.
Through six games of the 2013-14 schedule, Rule is the only Friar to reach double figures each time. She is tied for second in the BIG EAST in scoring (21.5 ppg) and adds 3.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Rule has scored 20+ points in four games, including her season-high 32 points at Dartmouth.
Prior to the start of the 2013-14 campaign, Rule was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, which was released at the league's annual media day event on October 16 in New York City.
The Friars return to action on Wednesday, November 27 against the University at Albany. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
