Women's Basketball Team Captains Announced

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College Head Coach Susan Robinson Fruchtl announced today [Nov. 11] that senior forward Alexis Harris (Detroit, Mich.) and junior guard/forward Evi Iiskola (Espoo, Finland) will serve as team captains for the program during the 2014-15 season.

Harris played 29 games as a junior and averaged 14.0 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.0 steal per game. She reached double figures in the scoring column 23 times and recorded 14 double-digit rebounding games. Harris also was just one of four players in the BIG EAST Conference to post multiple 30-point games. She notched a career-high 31 points in the Friars' season opener against UMass Lowell (11/9/13) and hit for 30 points against Seton Hall (1/25/14). Harris also collected a team-best 12 double-doubles. She was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team at the conclusion of the season, and was tabbed a 2014-15 Preseason All-BIG EAST selection at the league's annual media day in New York City on Oct. 22.

Iiskola, who was Head Coach Susan Robinson Fruchtl's first recruit at Providence, finished her sophomore campaign with averages of 9.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. She scored a career-best 21 points vs. Seton Hall in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament on March 8, shooting 6-8 from the field, including 4-5 from three-point territory. Her four, three-point buckets marked a single-game career best. Iiskola reached double figures in the scoring column 12 times. During the summer of 2014, she played for Finland's Women's National Team in the Eurobasket 2015 Second Qualification Round.

Providence opens the 2014-15 season against the University of Richmond on Friday, Nov. 14. The game will be played at the Robins Center in Richmond, Va. and tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., marking the first game of a double-header with Richmond men's basketball team vs. Radford at 7:30 p.m.
