Evi Iiskola And Aliyah Miller Named Team Captains For Women's Basketball

Evi Iiskola is the lone senior of the Friars' roster in 2015-16.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior guard/forward Evi Iiskola (Espoo, Finland) and junior forward Aliyah Miller (Southaven, Miss.) have been elected team captains of the Providence College women’s basketball team for the 2015-16 season. The announcement was made on Wednesday, Oct. 28. Iiskola assumes the leadership role for the second-straight season, while Miller is a first-time captain with the Friars.

Iiskola has appeared in 89 career games for the Friars and has cracked the starting line-up 88 times. She came to Providence College as Head Coach Susan Robinson Fruchtl’s first recruit. During her three previous seasons with the program, she has averaged 7.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. She has shot 43.3-percent from the field (225-520), including 35.3-percent from beyond the three-point arc (36-102). Iiskola has been a solid performer at the free-throw line during her career, shooting at a 79-percent clip (158-200).

Miller returns to the floor as the Friars’ most experienced post player. She missed the first 10 games of the 2014-15 campaign with an injury and returned to play in 17 contests overall. She averaged 3.7 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. In her two-year career, Miller has averaged 5.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. She has shot 39.8-percent from the field (97-244) and 60.2-percent from the charity stripe (59-98).

Iiskola and Miller will be charged with the task of leading a young team in 2015-16. Nine of the 12 players on the roster are freshmen (five) or sophomores (four). Providence is scheduled to open the regular-season schedule with ACC-foe Boston College on Nov. 13 at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I.
