Providence Announces Women's Basketball Schedule
Sept. 30, 1999 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's basketball squad will play six-time defending BIG EAST regular season champion and 1995 National Champion, University of Connecticut in the Providence Civic Center. The Huskies visit the Friars for the last regular season game on Tuesday, February 29 at 7 pm. The Friars, who finished 5-22 a year ago, face four BIG EAST opponents on home turf who were invited to the 1999 NCAA Tournament - Boston College, Rutgers, Notre Dame and Connecticut. The Friars will travel to two tournaments including the University of Memphis Lady Tiger Classic in late November then to the Doubletree Classic at Tulane University in late December. Home non-conference opponents include George Mason (Nov. 20), Princeton (Jan. 2), and cross-town rival URI (Dec. 3). West Virginia comes to Alumni Hall on December 8 to kick off the 1999 BIG EAST campaign. Other home BIG EAST games include Pittsburgh, Boston College, St. John's, Notre Dame, Rutgers, Miami, Villanova and Connecticut at the Civic Center. Providence returns four starters from last season including the leading scorer and rebounder junior Monika Roberts. Head coach Jim Jabir begins his fourth year at the helm. Tickets can be purchased at the Providence Athletic Ticket Office beginning immediately. Ticket prices for the Civic Center game versus the University of Connecticut are $10 and $5 and for games in Alumni Hall, $5 and $3.
