PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Providence College women's basketball program unveiled its 2013-14 BIG EAST Conference schedule on Wednesday, September 11. The league began a new era on July 1, 2013, and is comprised of 10 institutions - Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, Villanova and Xavier. The Friars will play an 18-game conference slate, which will feature two match-ups against each opponent - one at home and one on the road.
The Friars open BIG EAST Conference play on Wednesday, January 1 against Butler at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. The game vs. the Bulldogs is slated for 1:00 p.m.
Providence follows with back-to-back road games against Villanova on Saturday, January 4 and DePaul on Wednesday, January 8. The match-up with Villanova will be played at The Pavilion in Villanova, Pa., and the game vs. DePaul will take place at McGrath-Phillips Arena in Chicago, Ill.
The Friars return home to Alumni Hall for games against Creighton on Saturday, January 11 (2:00 p.m.) and Georgetown on Wednesday, January 15 (7:00 p.m.).
Three of next four games will be played on the road. On Saturday, January 18 Providence will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to face Xavier at the Cintas Center. The Friars then face Marquette at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee, Wis. on Tuesday, January 21, before returning home to host Seton Hall on Saturday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m. Providence finishes the four-game stretch with a trip to Indianapolis, Ind. to face Butler on Tuesday, January 28 at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The Friars open the month of February with home games against DePaul on Saturday, February 1 and Villanova on Wednesday, February 5. The DePaul game is set for 2:00 p.m. and the Villanova game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
On Saturday, February 8, the Friars will face St. John's at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, N.Y. at 1:00 p.m. The game will be televised live on FOX Sports 1.
Marquette comes to town for a 7:00 p.m. match-up at Alumni Hall on Tuesday, February 11. Providence hits the road again for back-to-back road games against Creighton and Seton Hall. The match-up with Creighton is slated for Saturday, February 15 at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha, Neb. The Friars take on the Pirates of Seton Hall at Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, N.J. on Tuesday, February 18.
On February 22, Providence hosts Xavier at Alumni Hall (2:00 p.m.), followed by a road game against Georgetown on Saturday, March 1 at McDonough Arena in Washington, D.C.
The Friars conclude the regular-season schedule at home against St. John's on Monday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m.
