    PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

Providence College Head Coach Susan Robinson Fruchtl announced today (September 9) that Karin Robinson (Jamaica, N.Y.) has joined the women’s basketball program, and will be eligible to compete for the Friars during the upcoming 2013-14 season. Robinson spent the last two seasons enrolled at Coffeyville Community College (2011-12) and Monroe Community College (2012-13).

“We are thrilled that Karin has joined our Friar family,” Robinson Fruchtl said. “We expect her to make an immediate impact for us. Karin adds scoring and game experience that will really help our team. She is someone who is accustomed to playing an up-tempo style, that will fit in well with us.”

At Monroe CC, Robinson averaged 10.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.1 steals per game. She played in all 29 games and helped pace the team to a 23-6 overall record. In May 2013, she was one of just 10 players named to the WBCA Junior/Community College Coaches’ All-America Team.

Robinson tallied 15 double-digit scoring games, including a season-high 23 points against Alfred State College on 10-18 shooting from the field (3-4 from three-point range). She also dished at least four assists in 16 games, including a season-high eight hand-outs in games vs. St. Petersburg College and Niagara County Community College. During the 2011-12 season at Coffeyville CC, Robinson played 31 games and averaged 11.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.5 steals.

“Being from New York City, Karin has grown up watching BIG EAST basketball,” Robinson Fruchtl stated. “I know she is excited about being in a basketball-centric conference and competing at a high level. I want to thank her coaches, JoAnn Arbitello, of Mary Louis Academy and Positive Direction Basketball and Tim Parinello, of Monroe Community College, for preparing her for this next step and for all of their communication in the recruiting process.”

Robinson rounds out a list of five newcomers on the Friars’ roster. She joins true freshmen Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.), Aliyah Miller (Southaven, Miss.) and Miranda Simpson (Round Rock, Texas). Sophomore transfer Shequana Harris (Bronx, N.Y.) will sit out the 2013-14 season due to NCAA transfer rules. Harris played for Charlotte last season as a freshman.

The Friars will host Assumption in an exhibition game on October 26 at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. The exhibition game is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. The Friars open the 2013-14 regular-season schedule against UMass Lowell on November 8 in Lowell, Mass.
