Women's Basketball Releases 2011-12 Regular-Season Schedule

The Providence College women’s basketball program released its schedule for the 2011-12 season, in conjunction with the BIG EAST Conference office, on Wednesday, August 31. The Friars will play 13 non-conference games and a 16-game BIG EAST regular-season schedule.

The Friars open the 2011-12 schedule with a road game against Boston University on November 11. Providence hosts ACC foe Virginia in its home-opener on November 14 at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium. On November 16, Providence travels to Kingston, R.I. to take on cross-state rival Rhode Island, before returning home to host Harvard on November 18. The Friars finish up the month of November with a road trip to Oakland University on November 22 and a home game against Dartmouth on November 26.

Providence opens the month of December at the Brown Bear Classic for the second-straight season. The Friars will take on host Brown University on December 3, followed by a match-up with Fairfield on December 4. Each of those contests will be played at Pizzatola Sports Center.

Following the Brown Bear Classic, the Friars will prepare for its BIG EAST opener against Villanova on December 7 in Providence, R.I. The match-up with the Wildcats is the first of two games between the league rivals as they are paired as repeat opponents on the schedule for the fifth-straight year.

Providence’s five remaining non-conference games will be played against Massachusetts (December 9), Delaware (December 19), Clemson (December 22), Akron (December 28) and Hartford (December 31). During that stretch, the Friars will host Delaware, Clemson and Hartford at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. Providence will travel to Akron and UMass.



The BIG EAST Conference schedule resumes with a road contest at St. John’s on January 4. The remaining BIG EAST road games on the schedule will be played against Connecticut (January 10), Louisville (January 18), Marquette (January 21), Villanova (February 4), Notre Dame (February 14), Georgetown (February 18) and USF (February 27).

In addition to Villanova on December 7, the Friars will host league foes DePaul (January 7), West Virginia (January 14), Pittsburgh (January 28), Syracuse (January 31), Cincinnati (February 7), Seton Hall (February 11) and Rutgers (February 25).

The Friars’ game vs. Villanova on February 4 in Villanova, Pa. will be televised as part of the BIG EAST Game of the Week package. The Conference in conjunction with the ESPN-ESPN Regional Television Partnership produces and distributes a regular season Conference Game of the Week to various regional sports networks in BIG EAST markets. SportsNet New York (SNY) carries the entire package and is singled out as the flagship station and core of the distribution, solidifying New York as the nation’s number one media market.
