Women's Basketball Faces Cameroon National Team In Florence, Italy

FLORENCE, ITALY - The Providence College women’s basketball team fell to the Cameroon National Team on Aug. 16 in Florence, Italy. Sophomore Alison Lewis led the Friars with 10 points and added three rebounds and two steals.

The Friars trailed by just three (16-13) after the first quarter of play, but Cameroon out-scored Providence 20-8 in the second quarter to take control of the game and secure a 36-21 lead at the half. The Friars hit just 5-24 attempts from the field in the first half overall, and were 3-6 from three-point territory.

Providence outscored Cameroon, 19-18, in the third quarter. The Cameroonians held a 22-14 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.

Freshmen Clara Che and Yoyo Nogic contributed nine points each. Che dished a team-high three assists and hit 3-4 attempts from beyond the three-point arc. Nogic shot 3-6 from the field overall, including 3-3 from three-point range.

Allegra Botteghi and Aliyah Miller each hauled in a team-best five rebounds. Botteghi, Lewis and Sarah Beal each collected two steals.

Upon completion of the game, the Friars took a three-hour bus ride to Pesaro, which is on the Adriatic Coast. The team will remain in Pesaro until Aug. 19, and then will finish the international tour with several days in Rome.

The Friars return to action on Aug. 19 against Pescara in Rome, Italy.
