Former Friar Sarah Beal Signs Professional Contract To Play Basketball In Sweden

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Former Providence College women’s basketball player Sarah Beal ’17 (Matthews, N.C.) has signed a contract to play professionally for the Wetterbygden Sparks. The team is located in Huskvarna, Sweden and Beal is scheduled to join the club at the end of August.

The Sparks compete in Basketettan Södra (second division) and will look to finish the season ranked in the top four in order to compete in Superettan (first division). Last season, the Sparks placed second in Basketettan Södra and third in Superettan.

As a senior for the Friars in 2016-17, Beal averaged 13.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game. She became the 33rd player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points, with a 24-point effort against Marquette on Jan. 4. She finished her career ranked ninth all-time at Providence College in career assists (385) and 21st all-time in career scoring (1,188 points). During her final season, Beal was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll three times (11/14, 11/21 and 12/26). She also was tabbed BIG EAST Player of the Week on Jan. 30. She is the first Friar to earn BIG EAST Player of the Week honors since Tori Rule on Nov. 25, 2013.
