Women's Basketball Falls To AMW All-Stars In First Exhibition Game Of European Tour

PARIS, FRANCE - The Providence College women’s basketball team fell to the AMW All-Stars, 72-55, on Aug. 14 in Paris, France. Junior Aliyah Miller led the Friars with 16 points on 7-9 shooting from the field. Fellow junior Sarah Beal chipped in 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Providence started the game on a 7-0 run after just 3:35 minutes of play, but were out-scored 22-6 to close the first quarter. The AMW All-Stars also held a 17-10 scoring advantage in the second quarter to take a 39-23 lead into halftime.

Miller led the Friars with 10 first-half points and added three rebounds and one steal. Evi Iiskola chipped in five points and three rebounds, while Allegra Botteghi grabbed a team-best five rebounds through two quarters.

The Friars out-scored the AMW All-Stars 17-12 in the third quarter and trailed 51-40 heading into the final 10 minutes of the game.

Sophomore Brianna Frias led Providence with seven rebounds, while sophomore Allegra Botteghi and Miller each hauled in five boards. Iiskola finished the day with seven points.

Providence has been in Paris since Aug. 12 and will depart the city on Aug. 13 for Florence, Italy. The Friars will return to action on Aug. 17 against the Cameroon National Team.
