Nogic And Che Complete Play At 2017 FIBA U20 European Championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women’s basketball program was well-represented at the 2017 FIBA U20 Women’s European Championship, held July 8-16 in Matosinhos, Portugal. Juniors Jovana ‘Yoyo’ Nogic (Lisbon, Portugal) and Clara Che (Valencia, Spain) each earned roster spots for their respective countries, as Nogic played for Serbia and Che competed for Spain.

Serbia finished ninth in the 16-team championship with a 4-3 overall record. Two of Serbia’s three losses were decided by four points or less. Nogic reached double figures in each of the seven games she played, and eclipsed the 20-point plateau three times. Her best offensive effort came against Lithuania when she poured in 33 points on 12-18 shooting from the field, including a 7-8 performance from three-point territory. Overall, Nogic averaged 18.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.6 steals per game. She shot 42.5-percent from the field (45-106), 36.5-percent from three-point range (19-52) and was 21-25 from the foul line (84-percent). Nogic finished the European Championship ranked fourth in scoring.

Che and her native Spain posted a perfect 7-0 record on their way to the U20 European Championship gold medal. It marked Spain’s sixth title in the last seven years. Che played in six of seven games for Spain and played 6.5 minutes per game as a reserve on a loaded roster. She averaged 1.5 points in the tournament and posted an efficiency rating of +37 (6.2). Che netted a tournament-best three points in three different games vs. Poland, Sweden and Slovenia.
