Allegra Botteghi Completes Play In U20 European Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College rising sophomore Allegra Botteghi (Bologna, Italy) recently competed for Italy in the FIBA U20 European Championships on July 2-12 in Lanzarote, Spain. Italy posted a 5-4 record in the championship and finished fifth out of 16 teams.

Botteghi played in six games for Italy and averaged 3.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. She played her best basketball in the final two games of the European Championship vs. Slovak Republic and Portugal. On July 11 vs. Slovak Republic, she scored eight points on 4-8 shooting from the field and added five rebounds and three assists. On July 12, Botteghi posted tournament highs of 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in an 83-71 victory over Portugal. She helped spark an 11-0 run with a three-point bucket in the third quarter, which put Italy in control of the game, 66-45. Botteghi also connected on 6-6 free-throw attempts in the game.
