Susan Yow Names Women's Basketball Staff For 2002-03 Season

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's basketball coach Susan Yow, announced today the appointment of her staff for the 2002-03 season. Susan Doran and Jack Easley come to Providence College for their first seasons on the Friar sidelines. Gary Martinelli, who has been an assistant coach at PC for the last three seasons, will return for a fourth year under the direction of Coach Yow.

Doran comes to Providence College from North Carolina State University, where she served as the director of women's basketball Operations during the 2001-02 season. Before joining the staff at NC State, Doran spent four years at the University of Maryland. She served in several capacities, starting in 1997 as the assistant to the senior associate athletic director. In 1998-99 she served as both assistant director of marketing and director of championships for the Terps. In September of 1999, Doran was named director of membership and affinity programs by the University of Maryland Alumni Association. Prior to her stint at Maryland, she served as Yow's assistant coach for 19 seasons at East Tennessee (1980-86), Drake University (1986-90), Kansas State (1990-93) and North Carolina-Wilmington (1993-97).

Doran earned a bachelor of science and education degree as well as a master of education degree from West Georgia College in Carrollton, Ga. (1976-1980). While pursuing her master's degree, she entered the collegiate coaching ranks as a graduate assistant with West Georgia from 1978-80.

Easley comes to Providence after 19 seasons as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State University. While at Oklahoma State, Easley helped guide the Cowboys to a 333-233 overall record, seven 20-win seasons, seven NCAA Tournament appearances, two WNIT appearances and three Big Eight Championships. Easley was involved in all aspects of the OSU women's basketball program, including coaching, recruiting, public relations, fund raising, scheduling, budgeting and summer camps. Prior to his 19 seasons at OSU, Easley served as the head women's basketball coach and assistant men's basketball coach at State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Mo. (1979-83). Easley's first days as a basketball coach were spent at Slater High School as the head girls basketball coach, from 1977-79. Prior to his arrival, the girl's team had never won a basketball game. Under Easley's guidance, Slater High achieved a 6-12 record in 1977 and a 9-10 mark in 1978.

Easley, a native of Kansas City, Mo., earned an associate's degree from State Fair Community College in 1974. Easley went on to Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo., where he earned a bachelor's degree in physical education with a minor in history in 1977. Easley and his wife Marla have three sons, Sam, Lance and Zachary.

Martinelli returns to Providence College for his fourth season as assistant women's basketball coach with the Friars. At PC, Martinelli has handled scouting, film breakdown and team and individual floor instruction. He also played a large role in the recruitment of qualified student-athletes, including the Friars' 2001 recruiting class that was ranked among the top-25 in the country. Prior to becoming an assistant at PC, Martinelli spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Boston University. While at Boston University, he helped recruit what was known as the best incoming class ever at BU in 1998, including the America East Conference's Rookie of the Year. Martinelli also served as a liaison to other internal departments on campus. Before his stint at Boston University, Martinelli served as an assistant coach at Bryant College from 1995-97. He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at nearby Scituate (R.I.) High School in 1992.

Martinelli, a native of Providence, R.I., is a 1987 graduate of Plymouth State College, and is nearing completion of his master's degree in education at Providence College. Martinelli and his wife, Patrice, have two daughters, Kylan and Capri.
