2017-18 Non-Conference Schedule

Providence College women’s basketball Head Coach Jim Crowley released the Friars’ 2017-18 non-conference schedule today [July 6]. Providence will host an exhibition game against NCAA Division II Merrimack on Nov. 4, before officially opening the season on Nov. 10 with a home tilt against Columbia.

The Friars will host a total of five regular-season non-conference home games at Alumni Hall / Mullaney Gymnasium, including two games in the Second Annual Ocean State Tip-Off Tournament. Providence will play seven road games during non-conference play, including three games as part of the Savannah Invitational.

Additionally, six opponents on this year’s schedule advanced to postseason tournaments during the 2016-17 campaign.

Following the season opener with Columbia (Nov. 10), Providence will travel north on I-95 to face Northeastern on Nov. 14. The Friars return home to take on Big Ten foe Penn State on Nov. 18. The Nittany Lions advanced to the WNIT Third Round a season ago.

Providence will hit the road for three games in Savannah, Ga. as part of the Savannah Invitational. The Friars open tournament play against Savannah State on Nov. 21, followed by games against Wright State (Nov. 22) and Stetson (Nov. 23). Wright State completed the 2016-17 campaign with a 25-9 overall record and advanced to the WNIT Second Round. Stetson won the Atlantic Sun Regular-Season title in 2016-17 and compiled a 26-7 overall record. The Hatters also found themselves in postseason play, but were eliminated in the WNIT First Round. All games in the Savannah Invitational will be played at the Savannah Civic Center.

The Friars close out the month of November with a trip to New Haven, Conn. to face the Yale Bulldogs on Nov. 29.

Providence College will serve as host for the Second Annual Ocean State Tip-Off Tournament on Dec. 2-3 at Alumni Hall. The Friars will face Brown in a rematch of last year’s championship game on Dec. 2, followed by a match-up against Bryant and Rhode Island. The championship game and consolation game will be played on Dec. 3. Brown is the only member of the tournament field to have competed in the postseason in 2017, having advanced to the WBI Quarterfinal Round.

On Dec. 6, Providence will travel to Hamden, Conn. to face 2017 MAAC Champion Quinnipiac. The Bobcats made an impressive run in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the Sweet 16, before falling to eventual National Champion South Carolina.

The Friars remain on the road to face Sacred Heart on Dec. 9 in Fairfield, Conn. The Pioneers also participated in post-season play, falling to BIG EAST member St. John’s in the WNIT First Round.

Providence concludes its non-conference schedule against ACC foe Boston College on Dec. 21. The game will be played at Alumni Hall / Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I.
