Allegra Botteghi Named To U-20 Italian National Team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College rising sophomore Allegra Botteghi (Bologna, Italy) has been named to the U-20 Italian Women’s National Team that will compete at the 2015 U-20 European Championship. The championship will be played in Tinaro-Teguise, Lanzarote, Spain on July 2-12.

Italy is one of 16 teams that will compete at the U-20 European Championship and will play in Group C during first-round action with Spain, Czech Republic and Hungary. Italy opens play on July 2 against Spain. The Italians will face Czech Republic on July 3 and will finish first-round play against Hungary on July 4.

Botteghi previously played for Italy in the U-18 European Championship and averaged 10 minutes, 3.7 points and 1.9 rebounds per game in nine contests. She shot 38.9-percent from the field (7-18), 30.8-percent from three-point territory (4-13) and 77.8-percent from the foul line (7-9). Botteghi recorded 13 points and eight rebounds in a 72-49 victory over Sweden.

In 2014-15, Botteghi played 28 games for Providence College and appeared in the starting line-up 13 times. As a rookie, she averaged 5.6 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Botteghi netted double figures in six games, including a career-high 15 points against Virginia Tech on November 23. She posted 14 points against BIG EAST foe Georgetown on Jan. 9, which marked a season-high conference play.
