Former BU assistant began his coaching career in Rhode Island.
June 28, 1999 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College Head Women's Basketball Coach Jim Jabir today announced the appointment of Gary Martinelli as assistant women's basketball coach. Martinelli comes to Providence College after serving as an assistant coach at Boston University for two seasons. Prior to coaching at Boston University, Martinelli was an assistant coach at Bryant College from 1995-97. He began his coaching career as an assistant women's basketball coach at Scituate (R.I.) High School in 1992. "Gary is a tremendous addition to our staff," Jabir said. "He has a wealth of experience and a passion for Providence College." A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Martinelli resides in N. Scituate, R.I. with his wife, Patrice, and their three-year-old daughter, Kylan. He is a 1987 graduate of Pymouth State College and earned an associate's degree at Becker College in 1985 where he played basketball for two seasons.
