Junior College Transfer Ny-Asia Franklin Signs NLI To Attend Providence College

April 19, 2017

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women’s basketball Head Coach Jim Crowley announced today [April 19] that junior college transfer Ny-Asia Franklin (East Orange, N.J.) has signed a National Letter of Intent and will attend the College beginning in the Fall of 2017.

Franklin, a 6-foot, 1-inch, forward, will have two years of eligibility remaining, having spent the previous two seasons playing for ASA Junior College under the direction of Head Coach Thomas Davis.

During the 2016-17 campaign, Franklin averaged 12.0 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. She helped lead the Avengers to the Regional NJCAA Championship and the Elite 8 of the National Division 1 Junior College Championship.

Prior to attending ASA Junior College, Franklin attended East Orange High School and played for Head Coach Earl Elliott with the NY Gauchos.

“We are thrilled to have Ny-Asia become a Friar,” Crowley said. “She brings skill and experience to the forward position. She has been coached well and is prepared to step in and help us right away. She fits very well with the players we currently have and the players we are bringing in for next season.”

Franklin is the fifth student-athlete to join Crowley’s 2017 recruiting class along with Andrea Cooper (Edmond, Oklahoma), Olivia Orlando (Winthrop, Mass.), Kyra Spiwak (Arlington Heights, Illinois) and Chanell Williams (Bronx, N.Y.)
