Sarah Beal Named BIG EAST Player Of The Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College senior guard Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday, Jan. 30. It marks the first time in her career that she has earned the league's Player of the Week honor. Beal had been previously named to the BIG EAST Week Honor Roll eight times during her career, including three times in 2016-17 (11/14, 11/21 and 12/26).

Beal averaged 20.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists last week in games vs. Marquette and No 21/19 DePaul. Against Marquette, who is receiving votes in the AP and ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Polls, Beal tallied a season-high 25 points on 11-18 shooting from the field (.611). Her 11 field goals tied her career high and she also tallied six rebounds and five assists. Beal scored eight of the Friars' 16 points in the fourth quarter to lift the Friars to a 66-64 victory.

On Jan. 29 against nationally-ranked DePaul, Beal tallied a team-high 15 points and added nine rebounds, three assists and one steal.

Overall this season, Beal is averaging 13.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Beal is the first Friar to earn BIG EAST Player of the Week honors since Tori Rule on Nov. 25, 2013.

Providence returns to action on Friday, Feb. 3 against Georgetown. The game will be played at Noon in Washington, D.C. and will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network via FOX Sports GO.
