PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College rookie point guard Chanell Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors, and junior guard Maddie Jolin (Rehoboth, Mass.) was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. The league announced its weekly awards on Monday, Jan. 8.

Williams averaged 11.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists for the Friars last week. She shot 50-percent from the field (12-24) and posted a 1.33 assist/turnover ratio. She went on to tally a career-high 16 points and six rebounds against Seton Hall. Williams becomes the first Friar to earn Freshman of the Week honors since Sarah Beal ’17 on March 6, 2014.

Jolin earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition for the second time in her career. She paced the Friars with an average of 15.7 points per game and shot .533 from the field (16-30), including .529 from three-point territory (9-17). Jolin also contributed 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game. She is the only Friar to score in double figures during each game of the regular-season BIG EAST schedule. Jolin capped the week with a 20-point performance against RV/RV DePaul on Jan. 7, marking her second 20-point game of the season and fourth of her career. She also collected a season-high five steals against the Blue Demons, marking the third time in her career that she has picked up 5+ steals in a single game.

Providence returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 10 against BIG EAST foe Marquette at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports Go.
