Providence Defeats St. Johns 68-65

JAMAICA, NY- Providence defeated St. John's on Sunday, 68-65 in Jamaica, NY. The Friars needed a 17-3 run in the last 6:02 to defeat the Red Storm. Sophomore Meghan Hinds led the Friars with a game high 17 points on 5-14 shooting from the floor. Junior Dana Simonelli added 12 points and five boards while freshman Jen Gombotz was held to 3-12 shooting from the floor and eight points.

Hinds added two three-pointers in the last 2 1/2 minutes including a go-ahead trey with 1:08 remaining to give the Friars the lead for good at 64-62.

The Friars shot 42% from the floor while the Red Storm finished the game shooting 40% for the game while only sinking one three-pointer during the entire game.

The Friars played without All-America Candidate Kerri Chatten for the eighth consecutive game while she works her way back from a serious ankle injury.

Providence improves to 9-10 overall and 5-6 in the BIG EAST.
