    West Virginia Beats Providence in Shootout, 103-92

    PROVIDENCE, RI --- The Providence College women's basketball team fell to West Virginia this evening, 103-92 as the Mountaineers tallied a BIG EAST record of 16 three pointers.

    Providence was led by freshman Jen Gombotz (Southington, CT) who connected on 25 points including 3-3 from three-point territory and 6-6 from the free-throw line. Also in double figures was sophomore Meghan Hinds (Perrysburg, OH) with 24 points, junior Dana Simonelli (Toms River, NJ) with 12 points and senior Mandy Saunders (Richmond, VA) with 11 points.

    The Friars were down 51-50 at the break after recording 52% from the field. Both teams finished the game shooting better than 50% from the floor.

    West Virginia was led by Christine Lambert who recorded a career high 38 points including a BIG EAST record of 9 three-pointers. She broke the record set by Providence's Jen Davis in 1994.

    Providence improves to 8-9 overall and 4-5 in the BIG EAST.
