Women's Basketball Takes Third in San Juan Shootout

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -The Providence College women's basketball team beat Detroit Mercy by ten points 86-76 to take third place in the San Juan Shootout Sunday.

The Friars were led by freshman Jen Gombotz who collected a career-high 32 points in the game. Mandy Saunders and Kerri Chatten also posted double digit scoring with 17 points each. Saunders added a team-leading nine assists and Chatten pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds.

The Friars shot 18-41 (.439) from the floor in the first and 15-34 (.441) in the second half. PC finished the game 33-75 (.440). Saunders had the only three-pointer for the Friars.

Providence also capitalized on free throws with Saunders collecting 6-6, Chatten 9-9, Monika Roberts 2-2 and Gombotz 2-4. PC finished the game at 90 percent from the free throw line.
