Women's Basketball Falls Short At Florida Gulf Coast, 68-58

FORT MYERS, FLA. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Florida Gulf Coast, 68-58, on Thursday, Dec. 11 at Alico Arena in Fort Myers, Fla. Tori Rule led the Friars with 14 points. Kaneisha Atwater led all scorers with 33 points for FGCU.

FGCU took a 42-30 lead into halftime with an impressive 61.5-percent shooting from the field (16-26). The Friars, who struggled early on, found a rhythm offensively down the stretch and shot 41.2-percent from the floor (14-34). Karin Robinson paced the Friars in the opening 20 minutes with nine points off the bench. Atwater netted 15 points for FGCU.

In the second half, the Friars rallied to get within one point (54-53) with 8:45 remaining on the clock. The Eagles answered with a 6-0 run to take a seven point advantage (60-53) with 6:09 to play. Providence was still within striking distance down the stretch (60-57), but FGCU scored seven-straight points to close out the game.

Robinson finished the night with a season-high 13 points. Alexis Harris contributed 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Providence returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 21 against Duquesne. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I.
