PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team defeated UMass, 66-45, in non-conference action on December 9 in Amherst, Mass. Senior Teya Wright (Paterson, N.J.) recorded her BIG EAST leading eighth double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Fellow senior Rachel Barnes (Windsor, Conn.) added 13 points.

The Friars took a 38-17 lead into the locker room at halftime. Wright led the Friars with 11 points and five rebounds. The Friars scored 17 of their 38 points off of 12 UMass turnovers. Providence turned the ball over just five times, but did not yield any points. The Minutewomen were led by Jasmine Watson's seven points.

Providence never looked back in the second half, pushing its lead to as many as 27 on three occasions, with the latest coming with 5:56 to play (61-34).

The Friars' got 25 points from their reserves on the night, outscoring UMass' bench, 25-5. Providence also held a 43-34 advantage on the boards, including a 20-9 edge on the offensive glass. Wright recorded more offensive rebounds than defensive for the second-straight game and third time this season. Of her game-high 11 boards, six were offensive.

Providence returns to action on Monday, December 19 against No. 22/25 Delaware. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. Cox Sports will televise the contest live on Cox channel 3.
