PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Richmond, 57-50, in non-conference action on Dec. 5 in Providence, R.I. Junior Aliyah Miller (Southaven, Miss.) led the Friars with 14 points and added five rebounds and one steal in 22 minutes of action before fouling out. Janelle Hubbard led all scorers for Richmond with 16 points, as the Spiders improved to 6-2. The Friars dropped to 2-5 overall.

Providence started the game on a 5-0 run and held an 11-9 lead after the first 10 minutes of play. Richmond went on to out-score the Friars 17-10 in the second quarter to take a 26-21 lead into the break at halftime. Providence turned the ball over 15 times in the opening half and Richmond held a 10-2 scoring advantage in points off of turnovers.

Miller led PC with seven first-half points, while Richmond's Micaela Parsons recorded eight points. The Friars held a 19-17 advantage in rebounding for the half, but Richmond held the edge on the offensive glass, 6-4.

In the second half, Richmond never relinquished its lead. The Friars managed to cut the deficit to two points on five separate occasions, but the Spiders always seemed to answer on the other end. Richmond held a 39-37 lead with 6:25 to play in the game as Miller hit a lay-up for Providence. The Spiders then took off on a 16-5 scoring run to take their largest lead of the game (55-42) with 1:49 on the clock.

Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) joined Miller in double figures with 10 points and led the Friars in rebounds (six) and assists (two). Freshmen Jovana `Yoyo' Nogic (Lisbon, Portugal) and Clara Che (Valencia, Spain) each chipped in seven points.

Miller has scored in double figures during each of Providence's last three games, marking a career-best double-digit scoring streak.

Hubbard had help on the offensive end for Richmond as Lauren Tolson and Salita Greene finished the day with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Greene also added a game-high eight rebounds and posted three steals and two assists.

Providence returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 9 against intra-state rival Bryant. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
