The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Harvard, 73-59, on Tuesday, December 4 at Lavietes Pavilion in Cambridge, Mass. Senior Brianna Edwards (Minneapolis, MInn.) led three Friars in double figures with 21 points and added six rebounds.
The Friars went on a 14-4 run early in the first half to take an 18-8 lead with 11:08 left on the clock. Providence's offense then fell silent for the next 5:31 of the half as Harvard managed to take a 20-18 lead with a 12-0 run.
The Friars stopped the bleeding with back-to-back baskets by senior Jenna Roncarati (Cumberland, R.I.) and Edwards to tie the game, 22-22, with 5:07 left to play in the half. Providence finished the half with a 6-5 scoring edge to take a 28-27 lead into the locker room at the break.
Edwards led the Friars with 12 points on 6-10 shooting in the opening 20 minutes and added five rebounds. Victoria Lippert paced Harvard with 11 points.
In the second half, the Friars held a 50-49 lead with 7:34 remaining in the game. The Crimson got hot on the offensive end and outscored Providence, 24-9, down the stretch to take the win.
Senior Symone Roberts (New Britain, Conn.) and sophomore Tori Rule (Minneapolis, MInn.) joined Edwards in double figures with 10 points each. For Edwards it marked her second 20+ point game of the season - and career.
Providence returns to action on Friday, December 7 against Arizona State. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to tip off at 7:00 p.m.
